Ponte 25 de Abril
The iconic bridge in Lisbon is called the Ponte 25 de Abril (April 25 Bridge). It spans the Tagus River, connecting the capital city with the municipality of Almada on the southern bank. The bridge is often compared to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge due to its similar red color and suspension design. It was completed in 1966 and was later renamed to commemorate the peaceful revolution of April 25, 1974, which overthrew Portugal’s Estado Novo dictatorship.
