This image is one of the 12 selected photos to be featured in the SundayMoods 2021 calendar for the month December.

It is one of my favourites because by itself it doesn’t tell you the whole story, yet. What you see is a winter landscape with a bridge called the Ravenna Bridge. It is situated in the South of Germany deep inside the Black Forest. As you can see that day in mid-December was extremely cold also due to the heavy winds and snow blowing in my face. I was waiting forever on a very slippery slope – sliding down a couple of times – for the right moment to take this photo with the contrasting red Deutsche Bahn train crossing that bridge. That winter wonderland continues outside of the picture. Underneath the bridge, right around the tree you see in the middle, little wooden huts are spreading out selling mulled wine or hot honey wine, freshly baked cookies and one or the other stocking filler. There are also little fireplaces to heat up your body from the cold. This Christmas market is one for fairy-tales and miniature landscapes. It is busy with people in good spirits, children running around or baking their bread on a stick over the fire. Everywhere there is live music and dancing. What a stark contrast to how we celebrate the festive season this year. I am grateful that I can share my memories with you hoping to add a little of that Christmas sparkle to your day 🙂
